Lake Gogebic is Upper Michigan’s largest inland lake, at nearly 14,000 acres.   It is about 14 miles from north to south and at the widest point on the north end measures about 4 1/2 miles wide.  The main body of the lake averages about 2 miles wide. The Lake Gogebic area has many natural attractions like waterfalls, skiing, awesome snowmobiling, and National Parks.  What got us hooked though is the fishing on Lake Gogebic.  We’re talking gigantic jumbo perch through the ice!  Other species found in Lake Gogebic are walleyes, Big smallmouth bass, crappies, sunfish, Northern Pike (I’ve seen them over 40″), and others.  It’s the “hog” perch, though that get us really excited.  In winter it’s not unusual to get 14+ inch perch with 11″-12″ (or larger) girths.  These perch are unbelievable!

Lake Gogebic is located in 2 different counties.  The northern portion is in Ontonagon County and the Eastern Time Zone.  The Southern portion is in Gogebic County and the Central Time Zone.  Some enjoy the tradition of ringing in the new year twice.  They start the evening on the north end, then just after midnight ET they head for the south end to do it all over again at midnight CT.
